ENO to show new Damon Albarn opera
Damon Albarn's new opera will be shown by the English National Opera.
Doctor Dee, the Blur and Gorillaz star's second opera, following his debut Monkey: Journey To The West, will be shown at the Coliseum as part of the London 2012 Festival.
Damon has written the stage show, about 16th Century alchemist, astrologer and spy John Dee, which premieres at the Manchester International Festival.
The ENO is also staging the first London production of The Death Of Klinghoffer, based on the hijacking of passenger line Achille Lauro, and directed by Tom Morris, brother of Brass Eye satirist Chris Morris.
The ENO, which received a funding freeze of £17 million a year from Arts Council England, is putting on 11 new productions in its 2011/12 season.
Four of its productions are by living composers, a first for the company.
