Prince to play UK music festival

Prince is to play his first UK show for four years with his addition to the line-up for the Hop Farm Music Festival this summer.

The Purple Rain star dazzled audiences when he played a 21-date residency at the O2 Arena in London in 2007.

Now he has announced he will play the Hop Farm event in Kent, along with other headliners such as the Eagles and Morrissey.

The festival - in its fourth year - will be extended to a third day with Prince's inclusion on the bill. He will play on Sunday July 3 to round off the weekend.

The event, which tends to specialise in more mature acts, has Iggy and the Stooges, Bryan Ferry, Lou Reed and Patti Smith already on the bill.

Tickets for the third day of the "no branding" event at Paddock Wood go on sale on Thursday and current ticket-holders are allowed to upgrade.

Prince proved he could still be huge crowd puller, despite no longer selling albums in the volume he did in the 80s and 90s, with his huge run at the O2 which helped to put the site on the map as a credible music venue.

Festival organiser Vince Power said: "I am really excited about having Prince at the Hop Farm.

"We have worked hard to get the third day up and running and we hope that fans will appreciate the integrity of the bill and see it's one of the most musically exciting this year that stands head and shoulders above a lot of other festivals."
