Anger at JLS concert congestion

Fans and their parents have spoken of their anger at massive traffic delays which led to them missing much of a JLS and Olly Murs concert.

Bad weather and poor organisation are being blamed for the gridlock which left many queueing for hours to get to the outdoor concert at Matterley Bowl, near Winchester, Hampshire, on Friday night.

And the concert-goers were left with long delays after the show with some reporting having to wait for several hours to leave the festival site.

Suzanne Close said that her group, which included children, had left Wimborne in Dorset at 3pm but did not arrive at the concert 40 miles away until 8.30pm. She said they watched the concert for an hour before leaving when they had to wait two hours to leave the car park.

She told the BBC: "We had missed much of the concert and had to deal with tired, agitated children who felt the whole day had been ruined.

"The transport infrastructure was a shambles, the organisation a disgrace."

Hampshire Police said there were no reported incidents which would have added to the congestion but added that poor weather would have increased the amount of traffic on the road.

On their official Twitter account, JLS said: "To everyone who had trouble getting out of the Winchester gig we want to thank you again for supporting through the rain.we love you..Marv x."

The website of organisers Sound Festivals UK states: "Where parking facilities are provided on site, it is inevitable, that due to the large number of vehicles, that congestion and delays will occur when entering and leaving."
