Cee Lo Green: I'm not homophobic

Cee Lo Green has insisted he is not homophobic, but refused to apologise for remarks he made on Twitter suggesting a critic was gay.

The Bright Lights Bigger City singer hit out on the social networking site in response to a negative review from music editor Andrea Svensson about his performance with Rihanna in Minneapolis.

Cee Lo tweeted: "I respect your criticism, but be fair! People enjoyed last night! I'm guessing you're gay? And my masculinity offended you? Well, f*** you!"

The 37-year-old star has since deleted the post but refuses to apologise for making the comments, insisting he is not homophobic.

Cee Lo told Us Weekly: "I most certainly am not harbouring any sort of negative feeling toward the gay community.

"I'm one of the most liberal artists that I think you will ever meet, and I pride myself on that. Two of the remaining members that I have on my team on The Voice are proud and outspokenly gay."

He defended himself, saying: "At the time I didn't even know what gender the person was.

"I was being a little outspoken that night, a little outrageous. I always expect people to assume that everything I do is part of my character and sense of humour. I assumed that whoever it was would assume it was all in good fun. It wasn't taken so well, apparently."

Cee Lo said he shouldn't "have to apologise for speaking my mind or defending my performance".
