Bieber turns on the festive lights

Bieber Fever gripped two London shopping centres as teen sensation Justin Bieber switched on their Christmas lights - and revealed his favourite thing about the capital was "all the girls".

Thousands of fans turned out to see the 17-year-old star kick off the festivities at the Westfield mall in Shepherd's Bush before travelling east by helicopter to perform the same task at Stratford City.

Justin, fresh from scooping the best male and best pop prizes at last night's MTV Europe awards in Belfast, said: "It's a pleasure to be back here in London, and to have all my fans here is really special."

Struggling to be heard above the screams, he added: "My favourite part about London is all the girls."

Justin, who has recently denied claims that he fathered a child with a young fan, was joined on stage by boyband The Wanted, presenter Reggie Yates and youngsters from the Teenage Cancer Trust charity.

After performing several of his hits, the Baby singer - dressed in a grey beanie hat and leather jacket - insisted backstage he was well able to cope with the hordes of fans who greet him everywhere he goes.

"If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be where I am. I take it with a grain of salt - it's been incredible, my fans are amazing and I wouldn't have it any other way," he said.

He also claimed Christmas was no different now he was a global superstar.

"It hasn't really changed, you know. I just still go back home to see my family. I make it a priority to be with them and I think that's the most special time of year for me," he said.
