Black Sabbath planning new album

Heavy metal pioneers Black Sabbath are to record their first new album with the original line-up for 33 years.

The 1968 incarnation of the band, fronted by Ozzy Osbourne, will record new material with legendary producer Rick Rubin and play the 10th Download festival next summer.

The Birmingham rockers will return to the Midlands to play the Donington Park festival next June, before embarking on a worldwide tour, according to their official website.

The quartet, which also includes guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward, have sold in excess of 70 million records worldwide and are responsible for pioneering the heavy metal genre with hits such as Paranoid, War Pigs and Iron Man.

Iommi was quoted on the band's official Twitter page: "It's like putting on an old glove. It's fantastic."

Rubin, whose previous production credits include hip-hop luminaries Jay-Z and Public Enemy as well as rock bands such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, said: "When I've sat with them and they've played it sounds remarkably like Black Sabbath."

Next year's Download Festival takes place from June 8 to 10 at Donington Park in the East Midlands.

Andy Copping, of festival organisers Live Nation, said: "The reunion of the original line-up of Black Sabbath has been one of the most talked-about stories of the year.

"I am thrilled that the band will return to Donington Park next year to help us mark 10 years of the Download Festival."
