NewsDecember, 3 Brian May 'gobsmacked' by successBrian May says he's struggled to get Ben Elton's sequel to We Will Rock You on stage, because the pair have become victims of their own success. The Queen guitarist said he was "absolutely gobsmacked" by the success of the musical, also written by comedian and author Ben, which is still thriving 10 years after opening to the "worst reviews in the world". He added: "Ben has written a sequel, which I think is magnificent. "I guess what we don't have is the time and the right moment to put it on yet, because We Will Rock You takes up a lot of our time, we're a victim of our own success." Queen celebrate their 40th anniversary this year, and Brian said that it was "amazing" that "for a band that's been without its singer Freddie Mercury for 20 years, we've been more active than ever." The star said he had plans to perform with The Darkness, and that he might tour with drummer Roger Taylor again.
