Phil Collins flies in for bro's MBE

Phil Collins made a surprise appearance in Britain to support his cartoonist brother as he received an MBE from the Prince of Wales.

Clive Collins, 70, whose humorous drawings have appeared in national newspapers and satirical magazines, received the honour for services to art.

The Easy Lover singer is a household name, but the celebrity was happy to let his older sibling take the limelight during the investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Former Genesis drummer Phil, 60, showed his lighter side and joked around when photographers asked the pair to pose for pictures.

The singer and drummer, who lives in Switzerland, praised his brother, saying: "He's won cartoonist of the year. I shared a bedroom with him when we were boys and he was always drawing.

"He used to do Christmas cards and birthdays cards for the family."

Clive Collins has been a cartoonist for more than 40 years and has contributed artwork to a host of publications during his career, from the Daily Mirror and Sunday People to the Daily Mail and Punch.

He has won awards in the UK, Canada, Belgium and Japan and was the Cartoonist Club of Great Britain's Cartoonist of the Year in 1984, 1985 and 1987.

Clive, speaking about his famous brother, said: "He's been incredibly chuffed about me receiving this award and been absolutely marvellous, he's been so supportive.

"My brother stepped in and flew over from Switzerland to join me after my son, also called Phil, couldn't make it."
