NewsApril, 19 Jepsen: Bieber helped me go global![]() Carly Rae Jepsen has revealed how Justin Bieber helped her become an international number one star - and how he is supporting her in her music career. The 26-year-old Canadian Idol winner has topped the charts in the UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand with her track Call Me Maybe, and she told Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw it was all thanks to catching Justin's ear. Carly said: "It was on Canadian Idol that I got my first big break and I was just getting comfortable, starting to get songs on the radio in Canada ... Justin Bieber was home for Christmas at the exact time that my song was getting some air play and he heard the song and wanted to help me spread the music around." Justin, his girlfriend Selena Gomez and friends including Ashley Tisdale made an online video singing along to Call Me Maybe which helped her skyrocket to the top of the global charts. Carly said: "I saw it on the internet - somebody posted it on my Facebook. I had no idea it was coming, it was a beautiful shock." The Canadian singer said Justin was not her manager, but he had helped her get signed to Schoolboy Records, the label run by his manager, Scooter Braun. She explained: "Mostly he's just been a huge supporter of the music I'm making and he's kind of made it available to people that I've never met before and countries I've never visited." Carly, who was visiting various radio stations as part of a promotional visit to the UK, said of the shirtless man she sings about in her video for her new track: "I definitely thought he was not bad to look at, but I wouldn't say I had a total crush."
