Everyday People to return to charts

The Voice's Will.i.am is set for a royalties boost with one of his songs poised to score its highest ever chart placing after featuring twice on the show.

John Legend's hit Everyday People - which was written by the Black Eyed Peas star - is in line to head into the top five at the weekend, seven years after it was first released.

The resurgence of the song follows two contestants performing it on the BBC1 show last weekend. One rendition of the tune - by hopeful Jaz Ellington - reduced both Will.i.am and fellow programme coach Jessie J to tears.

Midweek sales figures show it is currently at number three and is expected to still be riding high in the singles chart when it is announced on Sunday.

Legend's original hit in 2005 made it to just number 27 but, within hours of Saturday night's edition of The Voice, sales had soared.

And the US singer's album Get Lifted, containing the song, is expected to re-enter the top 20 by the weekend.

Fellow Voice coach Jessie also sees a singles boost this weekend with her track Laserlight on course to rise more than 20 places and head into the top five.

This weekend sees two editions of The Voice as it enters the "battle" stage to whittle down teams before the live shows begin later this month and members of the public begin to vote.

Newly released schedule details show that the first Sunday night results show for the BBC1 programme on April 29 will be screened at 7.30pm against ITV1's Family Fortunes.
