Pop legends to honour the Queen

Pop music legends will perform in honour of the Queen at a Diamond Jubilee concert marking her 60-year reign.

Singing sensation Stevie Wonder is among the all-star list of artists performing on the night, including Sir Paul McCartney, JLS, Sir Elton John and Kylie Minogue. Other acts include Will.i.am. Sir Tom Jones, Jessie J, Dame Shirley Bassey, Annie Lennox and Ed Sheeran.

Soul legend Wonder has said: "It's an honour to celebrate The Queen. It's an honour to celebrate Great Britain. The time is overdue that I meet Her Majesty."

The concert follows Sunday's spectacular Diamond Jubilee pageant that attracted more than a million people to the banks of the River Thames to watch the event despite wet and cold conditions.

The Queen will be joined by many members of the Royal Family including the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry at the concert.

A highlight of the night will see pop veterans Madness perform on Buckingham Palace's roof.

The band will play their hit Our House, emulating the efforts of Queen guitarist Brian May who famously performed the National Anthem from the same spot during the 2002 concert marking the Golden Jubilee.

Another special moment will see the performance of Sing, the special Jubilee song written by Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Barlow recruited Prince Harry, a keen music fan, to play tambourine on the track although the royal refused to sing. The track features contributions from artists from across the Commonwealth including Kenya, Jamaica, Australia, and Britain's own chart-topping Military Wives.

Before the concert is held on a stage in the shadow of Buckingham Palace 10,000 lucky ballot winners, who won seats to the event, will enjoy a picnic in Buckingham Palace's garden with a hamper created by celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal, the Queen's royal chef Mark Flanagan and Waitrose.
