Lauryn Hill faces US tax charges

Lauryn Hill has been charged with willfully failing to file income tax returns.

The 37-year-old five-time Grammy winner earned more than 1.6 million dollars (£1 million) during the three years she failed to file tax returns, authorities said. US prosecutors said her primary source of income is royalties from the recording and film industries.

Lauryn is scheduled to appear before a federal magistrate on June 29.

She is currently touring and played at London's O2 Indigo venue in April.

Lauryn began her music career with The Fugees and went solo career in 1998 with the critically acclaimed album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.

A message left for her lawyer, Nathan J. Hochman, was not immediately returned.
