One Direction star Zayn Malik has quit his Twitter account, saying he's had enough of the abusive messages.

The singer, who is dating Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards, said that he was "sick of all the useless opinions and hate".

In his final messages, Zayn, 19, wrote to his millions of followers: "The reason I don't tweet as much as i use to, is because I'm sick of all the useless opinions and hate that I get daily. Goodbye Twitter.

"Fans that have something to say can tweet me on the one direction account."

Twitter users now trying to find his page will see the message: "Sorry, that page doesn't exist!"
