Veteran Sir Tom lights up festival

Sir Tom Jones dazzled a near-capacity crowd during an energy-packed Belfast performance.

Soul, country, rock and even rap classics were delivered with aplomb at the Belsonic music festival in the city centre.

The 72-year-old, from Pontypridd in Wales, said: "We have had a ball up here and hope you have too."

He dodged oversized white lingerie from the enthusiastic crowd as he delivered Kiss as a grand finale.

Delilah, The Green, Green Grass of Home, It's Not Unusual and Leave Your Hat On were among other hits.

Since the mid-1960s, Sir Tom has sung nearly every form of popular music - pop, rock, R&B, show tunes, country, dance, soul and gospel - and sold over 100 million records.

He has had 36 hits in the UK and 19 in the United States during a career spanning half a century.

Sir Tom, who is also a judge on BBC One's The Voice, released his 40th studio album Spirit In The Room earlier this year.

Belsonic has taken place at Custom House Square in Belfast city centre since 2008. Sir Tom topped a bill that included Brian Kennedy.

This year Belsonic is being run over 10 days and features an eclectic mix of performers. They include: Emeli Sande; Madness; Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and James Morrison.
