Kaiser Chiefs' Olympic conundrum

The Kaiser Chiefs have confessed it was a struggle to keep details of the Olympics closing ceremony a secret.

Keyboard player Nick 'Peanut' Baines and guitarist Andrew 'Whitey' White revealed they felt like they'd signed their lives away when the news leaked that they would be performing, and they weren't allowed to confirm the rumours to their friends.

Nick said: "We signed our lives away. We couldn't tell anyone about it and then the rumours came out in the papers obviously and stuff got leaked and everyone's texting you.

"And people were getting more cocky. They'd go, 'Are you playing the Olympic ceremony?' Then, 'I see you are playing the Olympic ceremony...'

"How do you reply to that? you can't really say no, because I don't want to say no..."

The band played The Who's Pinball Wizard at the ceremony, but insisted they weren't put off by The Who being there to judge their performance.

Andy said: "We knew from the start they were going to be there. We've done some stuff with them before at Glastonbury and Roger [Daltrey]'s Teenage Cancer Trusts gigs. So it's kind of a bit more relaxed. But it's great - what a band - still!"

Asked if he got any advice from them, he added: "I had small little conversations with Pete Townshend. He's a really interesting man, such a nice guy."
