Drew: My plan is to take a break

Plan B could be taking a break from the spotlight.

The rapper, real name Ben Drew, has had a hectic year with the release of his gritty directorial debut Ill Manors and the Mercury Music Prize-nominated album of the same name.

Ben revealed he would think carefully before making another film and record in tandem. He said: "I think if I do this again I'm aware of how much time it takes and how much of my personal life I have to sacrifice in order to do it.

"The fact that I'm here now and the first week sales were so amazing and continued after the Jonathan Ross Show, the album's been doing really well, It does feel like all that hard work has come to something, but I feel like I need a little break, maybe I'll take the winter off and decide what I'm going to do next."

Ben is up against acts such as Richard Hawley, The Maccabees and Field Music for the Barclaycard Mercury Music Prize.

He said the fact he is the most high-profile artist nominated "probably" hinders his chances of winning.

But he added: "You know, it's good enough to be part of this - my name's on this list, this album and what this album represents, the fact that it's UK hip-hop and it's on this list, and I'm the only one there."

The rapper and singer singled out fellow Londoner Michael Kiwanuka for praise. "The one that stood out for me is Michael Kiwanuka. It really, really stood out for me and I wish him all the luck in the world," he said.
