Justin Bieber's praise for mum

Justin Bieber has described his mother Pattie Mallette as "the strongest woman I've ever met", as she recalled her difficult childhood in a memoir.

The Boyfriend teen sensation wrote the foreword to her book, Nowhere But Up: The Story Of Justin Bieber's Mum, where the single mum remembered the years of sexual abuse by more than one attacker, drugs, alcohol and a suicide attempt.

"I always wanted to write a book about my story. I wanted to be as vulnerable as I could, so that young girls who have been through similar things could relate," she told USA Today.

"I pretty much bared my soul. It definitely furthered my healing process," she added.

Pattie, a devout Christian, admitted on The Ellen Show that she has been celibate for 15 years and promised Justin that she wouldn't date until he turned 18.

"I take that vow really seriously. I remember when I made it, I wrote it down on a piece of paper, I had someone witness it and it means a lot. I made it this far, I'm not stopping now," she told host Ellen DeGeneres.

"When I moved to Atlanta with Justin, because of all the chaos and how crazy it was, I told him I would focus on him and wait until he's 18 before I started dating. Now he's just turned 18."

She also gave her approval to Justin's girlfriend Selena Gomez, saying: "How can you not like her? She's so sweet and she's good for him, and they're great together. They're adorable."
