Mumford bigger than Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber's record for the biggest debut of any album this year in the US has been smashed by Mumford And Sons.

The British folk band sold 600,000 copies of Babel in the past week, making it the group's first number one in the Billboard 200 chart, Billboard.com said.

Teen star Justin previously held the record for his Believe album, which sold 374,000 copies in June.

Third place now goes to Madonna's album MDNA, with 359,000 copies, followed by Pink's big-seller The Truth About Love, with 280,000 copies.

But Justin can seek some consolation from Katy Perry, who has declared that she is a happy woman after seeing the 18-year-old perform live.

"Last night I saw The Black Keys, tonight I saw Bieber. I think my musical week is complete," she wrote, adding later with a picture of herself with friends at the gig: "We are Beliebers!"
