Rylan apologises for hotel antics

X Factor contestant Rylan Clark has apologised for the boozy behaviour which led him to be removed from the central London hotel used by the show - and he did it in the middle of his performance.

During a mash-up of Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna and Groove Armada hits, Rylan said: "I'm so sorry for my behaviour."

The singing hopeful, who sported a beard-free face for the first time in the series, split the judges once again, with his mentor Nicole Scherzinger and Gary Barlow getting into a war of words.

Gary said Rylan should have been the best contestant during the Club Classics theme, but he was actually the worst. Nicole came back saying: "You're right, Gary. He doesn't have the X Factor. He has the X, Y and Z factor."

Gary then said: "Two words: O-ver." Nicole's response was: "Two words: Puh-lease."

Along with fellow contestant Lucy Spraggan - who was also removed from the hotel - Rylan was pictured on a drunken spree which went into the early hours of Monday morning, including shots of him with his trousers pulled down.

A contender from the same category, Jahmene Douglas fought back tears as the judges heaped praise on him after a powerful performance of a classic song. After belting out Say A Little Prayer, Jahmene was visibly emotional as judge Louis Walsh described him as "the little man with the big soul voice" and "amazing".

Viewers were shown footage of the contestant expressing his sadness at stories about his personal life in the press this week, and his mentor Nicole was filmed telling him: "You've come from such a dark past."

Bookies' favourite, 16-year-old Ella Henderson, caused a stir after her lively performance of You Got The Love, as it Gary to say she didn't need to dance like recently reformed pop band Steps.

He said: "She doesn't need to conform in this way", adding that he though she was "the Adele of the competition". Nicole, who has a background in dance, defended the teenager's moves, saying: "You were effortless and you made them your own."
