One Direction 'can't play festival'

Nick Grimshaw said there is no place on the Glastonbury stage for his One Direction pal Harry Styles and his bandmates.

The DJ, who will present some of the BBC's coverage of this year's festival, said he did not think the group "would ever" play the event and only pop stars who were "incredible artists" should feature.

He said: "I don't think Take That should do it.

"I think Gary Barlow is really great at writing songs. I I think he's good, I don't think I really want to see Howard Donald on the Pyramid Stage".

Nick said Beyonce's performance in 2011 was the "perfect example" of a pop star who fits the bill for the event.

He said: "People were a bit like 'should she be playing Glastonbury?' because she isn't a man with a guitar but she killed it.

"I think Rihanna could play it, I think Rihanna would be great to see, she did Hackney and she was incredible."

The Breakfast Show host said he was looking forward to seeing Rita Ora play, adding: "I guess Rita's music sort of takes loads of stuff from music that would be like dub and reggae that would be played and house music that would played at Glastonbury. I don't think One Direction's music sounds like the stuff that is historically supported by Glastonbury".
