Pharrell: Album is for the GIRLs

Pharrell Williams has revealed his next album has been inspired - and is dedicated to - women.

The Happy hit-maker, who attended the Brit Awards with wife Helen Lasichanh, will release his second record, G I R L, on March 3. The cover sees him wearing a towelling robe, flanked by three women, all in shades.

"It's called G I R L - that should tell you something about our society," he said.

"Women are doing so much and I aim to just be a participant in that movement, for the equalisation and the equality. We need that. That's what we need right now."

Pharrell, who closed the 2014 Brits with a medley performance with Nile Rodgers and handed out the prize for best international male solo artist to Bruno Mars, wants to thank his army of female admirers with the album, which he described as "festive", "celebratory", "urgent" and "visceral".

"The music has had an incredible fanbase, or what some would call family, and support system which has been women," he told Metro.

"I can tell you that me and all of the ladies that were all a part of the process and coming around to the studio listening to things, we all had a ball and we just want to share that with the rest of the world. I am just ready to go."
