Mvula: I want to write film tunes

Laura Mvula has revealed she would like to get more involved with film soundtracks.

The Birmingham-born singer's song Little Girl Blue was featured on the 12 Years A Slave soundtrack, and she hopes this is the start, with more to come.

"I always said when I was younger, I wanted to write film music and I think that's what my ultimate dream is," she said on the red carpet of the 2014 Brits at London's O2 Arena.

The 27-year-old admitted she has no dreams of appearing on the big screen yet though, adding: "Not acting! Maybe one day."

Laura, who showed off her legs in a vintage frock, is on track to achieve her dream, after opening the Baftas with a performance of Heroes with Tinie Tempah.

She joked: "It felt like death initially because I started on the balcony, which logistically seems like a really creative idea, but what it meant for me is singing to the punters below and the likes of Oprah, Brad and Angelina and a bit surreal. Once I got on the stage with Tinie, it felt really electric and like something special was happening."

Laura admitted she was starstruck at the ceremony.

"Everybody in that room felt like royalty. I remember seeing Tom Hanks, Brad Pitt and Oprah together. When you look at every row, there's someone famous. It's hard to put into words but for me, being in that room was a huge deal," she said.

The highlight was meeting Saving Mr Banks star Emma Thompson, who revealed she was a fan of her music.

"When we were passing backstage, Emma Thompson said she had my album from the beginning and she was loving it. That was amazing and surreal," she said.
