Motorhead could top singles chart after Lemmy's death

Motorhead could top the singles charts following the shock death of frontman Lemmy.

The band’s song Ace of Spades has moved up 94 places into the ninth spot midweek in the singles charts, according to the Official Charts Company.

Lemmy, real name Ian Kilmister, died just two days after being diagnosed with an “extremely aggressive cancer”.

He had received the diagnosis on Boxing Day, just days after he had celebrated his 70th birthday.

The track was first released in 1980, when it reached number 15 on the charts. It was last in the top 40 22 years ago, when a remix reached number 23.

Canadian pop star Justin Bieber is still dominating the top five in the singles charts, with three of his songs featuring in positions number one, two and four respectively.

Adele’s Hello is in third position while Australian singer Grace, featuring G-Eazy, is in fifth position with You Don’t Own Me.
