Mel B's friends worried about devastating effects of court cases - report

Mel B's friends are reportedly concerned the ongoing court cases she is facing will lead her to financial ruin.

The former Spice Girls star is locked in a bitter divorce and custody battle with estranged husband Stephen Belafonte following their split earlier this year (17), as well as a defamation case brought against her by her former nanny Lorraine Gilles.

The legal proceedings are racking up huge lawyer's fees and should she lose her cases, she may be forced to pay out a large settlement, leading loved ones to believe her financial stability is in peril.

"Mel's lifestyle has always been pricey, but these legal bills are another level," a source revealed to British newspaper The Sun, before noting she is "playing with fire".

"She knows the consequences could be catastrophic if she doesn't settle (out of court), but she's not used to backing down," the insider added.

Apparently the 42-year-old singer is "absolutely furious" with Stephen and Lorraine and is "prepared to put everything on the line" to win against them in court.

Mother-of-three Mel, who shares six-year-old daughter Madison with ex Stephen, could be hit with a $2 million (£1.6 million) bill to fight her former nanny's defamation case after Lorraine won the right to sue the star last week (22Aug17).

Mel accused Lorraine of sleeping with Stephen behind her back, but the nanny insists she never had sex with the film producer without the singer's explicit consent.

Lorraine is suing for libel, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress and is seeking unspecified damages.
