Alexandria singer/songwriter Dan Healy hosting lockdown sessions from balcony in Bucharest
An Alexandria singer/songwriter is showcasing some of Scotland’s best music talent this weekend - from a balcony in Bucharest.
Former Vale of Leven Academy pupil Dan Healy will be joined by stars including Tom Urie, Cameron Barnes and Sean Kennedy on The Balcony Open Mic Live this week - and anyone can tune in via social media from 6pm on Sunday.
Dan told the Lennox: “I’m really looking forward to the Scottish night this Sunday.
“Emma Jane was nominated for country music album of the year recently and is a wonderful singer. She’s a bit similar to Dolly Parton in her style.
“It’s a really big deal having Tom Urie on - he’s been a good friend of mine for a while since we were in River City together.
“Sean Kennedy is a big star as well. He lives in Nashville now and has had upwards of 5 million streams on Apple Music.
“Cameron Barnes released his EP on Friday and it’s number one already in the singer/songwriter charts and something like 25th in the overall charts. It’s so exciting to have someone like that performing, he could be the next Lewis Capaldi.”
Dan’s shows have proved popular with audiences, and he hopes that their unique style will help ensure that they continue to prove a hit with music fans during lockdown.
He added: “The Balcony Open Mic is in its fourth week and going from strength-to-strength.
“I love the connection that music brings us. I started off doing a weekly session playing covers and originals which was being well received but I was starting to miss being around other musicians, talking, sharing ideas, listening to their work.
“The Balcony is a cross between Jools Holland and a real life open mic.
“We have literal superstars in the coming weeks on the same bill as local artists. Anyone can reach out and ask to be on the show from any level. There just isn’t anything out there like this and it’s bringing people so much needed relief in this tough time.”
