NewsMarch, 8 Grimes wishes fan base was 'less toxic'![]() Grimes wishes there was "a less toxic vibe" in her fan base. The Canadian musician, real name Claire Boucher, told Time that while the majority of her fans are "fine", her harsher critics tend to congregate on the social media platform Reddit. "Just the Reddit. Everyone else is fine. Honestly, the angrier they get, the more my streaming goes up. So I suppose it's fine, but I would definitely appreciate a less toxic vibe in the fan base," she shared, adding that she's "gotta put out art" to keep them happy. "That's where I have to rush music out: they always chill out when there's music. I just need to give them some art." The Genesis hitmaker insisted that her fans' concerns are "usually coming from the right place", and she "can't begrudge people wanting the world to be better". "I do think social media really incentivises people worrying that other people are evil," she stated. "And in general, I think everyone across the board is worrying too much that other people are evil, and probably only like 10% of people are evil." The singer's comments come weeks after she distanced herself from her ex Elon Musk - the father of her three children - and clarified that his actions and beliefs do not represent her own. "It's absurd that someone can be this cancelled for something their ex did before they even heard it happened," Grimes wrote on X in January after Musk appeared to use the Nazi salute. "I am not him. I will not make a statement every time he does something." The 36-year-old told Time that she tries not address her fans and their conspiracy theories too often. "I cannot correct them constantly because they become a giant press cycle whenever you correct them, and then the press are like, 'Grimes responds to allegations' of whatever they think I wish to do," she explained.
