Cynthia Erivo calls new album 'one of the most valuable experiences' in her life

Cynthia Erivo has described the process of making her upcoming album as "one of the most valuable experiences" in her life.

The British actress and singer recently released Replay, her first solo single since 2021.

Cynthia is now gearing up to release a new full-length album, which she began working on in August 2023 while filming the movie musical Wicked.

Reflecting on the making of the album, Cynthia told Billboard it was unlike any music she had worked on in the past.

"I have to say that this is probably one of the most valuable experiences I've had in my life," she divulged. "I've written albums before, and it didn't feel like this. I knew the things I wanted to talk about and I knew the stories I wanted to tell."

The London-born star also shared that the upcoming album is inspired by the '90s Brit-pop she grew up listening to.

"As a Brit, I wanted to bring something that felt particularly English, from my time, because I felt like we haven't heard anything that feels like that in a while," she explained.

Cynthia went on to reveal more details about the project.

"Everything that you hear in there - all the backing vocals, all of the pads, all of the whistling, even some of the percussion - that's all me," she said. "I'm using my nails for what would sound like a clap. The whistle in the background is actually me whistling. The vocal padding and that vocal arrangement, that's all me."

The album, which does not yet have a release date, will be her second solo record following 2021's Ch. 1 Vs. 1.
