NewsOctober, 12 Lizzo admits she had 'forgotten how to trust herself' musically![]() Lizzo has admitted that she had recently "forgotten how to trust" her music instincts. In March, the singer and rapper announced that her fifth studio album was complete, although a release date has yet to be confirmed due to ongoing legal issues. Despite the uncertainty, she shared two singles earlier this year - Love in Real Life and Still Bad - which she said were both chosen by her label, Atlantic Records. In a recent interview with Vulture, the About Damn Time hitmaker revealed that the tracks, along with their visuals, didn't turn out as she had envisioned. "I had forgotten how to trust myself," Lizzo confessed. "I think, musically, I have been on a path to losing myself for a long time." She went on to describe standing up for her creative freedom during a meeting with her label. "I sat down at the table and I said, 'I need to do s**t my way starting from now. And I need y'all to have my back. It's going to be a little scary,'" she told the publication. "And everybody agreed, and they said, 'We got your back, whatever you need.'" In May, Lizzo released a stripped-back version of Still Bad (Animal Style), signalling to fans that she was moving towards a more organic sound. The accompanying music video, filmed on an iPhone, shows her wandering the streets of New York City after this year's Met Gala, stopping at an arcade and a drag show. "Oh yeah, the point of this was to have f**king fun," she said of the video. Lizzo's career faced major setbacks in late 2023 and 2024 when a series of lawsuits were filed by former employees, alleging sexual harassment, weight-shaming, and a hostile work environment. She denied all of the claims.
