Jessie: I want to be a pop icon

Jessie J has big plans to represent the UK, now that she has been voted the Critics' Choice at the Brits.

The 22-year-old singer-songwriter can look forward to a promising future, following her latest win.

"Pop stands for popular. I want to be a pop icon and take Britain across the world," she said backstage.

"I've written the album over a period of time, it's a raw insight into my life from my teens to my adult years. I'm really proud of it. I spent years wrapping it up and I've given it to the world to open."

Jessie - whose real name is Jessica Cornish - said it might take a while for her new-found success to sink in.

"Everything that felt like a dream just became a reality," she said.

"Having Justin Bieber say he's a fan, dancing to Rihanna, and then this award, I'm just overwhelmed. My dreams are real and it's really, really incredible, My tour sold out in four hours, and Shepherds Bush sold out in three minutes."

But there's no splurging out for the songstress. "I went shopping yesterday and bought some bags. I spent £600 and my company cut me off because they thought soembody stole my card. So that's not going to happen," she said.

And she is hoping for a future collaboration with Rihanna.

"I'm slightly obsessed with Rihanna - she's amazing," she added.
