Brits hands star acts sales boost

Brits success has given an instant sales boost to winning acts as fans rush to buy their albums.

Mumford And Sons - who won best album at last night's awards bash - are among the artists seeing the biggest effect as sales of copies of Sigh No More rocket.

And Adele, who gave a spine-tingling performance of Someone Like You, has seen both her albums experience a huge upsurge.

The top 10 for online retailer Amazon.co.uk this morning featured seven albums by artists who performed at the event, staged at London's O2 Arena.

Adele's latest release, 21, is at number one, although it had already been at the top of the official album chart, and her debut 19 has climbed up to number three. Mumford And Sons have gone to number two in the Amazon chart.

Similarly, the top eight albums on iTunes had a Brits connection. Seven of those were by Brit-winning acts and a Brit Awards compilation was also one of the biggest sellers.

Tinie Tempah, a double winner last night, has been selling well with his album Disc-Overy while Arcade Fire - also recipients of two awards - have seen a boost for their third release, The Suburbs.

Brits bosses revamped the show this year to put an extra emphasis on the performances and to make the best album prize the focus of the awards.

Overnight viewing figures show that an average 4.9 million viewers tuned in to the ITV1 show, down on the 5.8 million who watched the previous year.
