Mars gets probation for guilty plea
Bruno Mars has pleaded guilty to cocaine possession in the US as part of a deal that could result in the felony conviction being wiped from his record next year.
A judge sentenced the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter to probation, a 2,000 dollar fine, plus requirements to perform 200 hours of community service and complete drug counselling.
If the 25-year-old, whose real name is Peter Hernandez, stays out of trouble for a year, the conviction would be erased from his record. The judge set a January 18 date next year for him to return at the end of his probation
Police say Bruno had 2.6 grams of cocaine when he was arrested in September in a Las Vegas casino bathroom after a nightclub performance.
The singer, who declined to comment after the court hearing, was a child entertainer in Hawaii before moving to Los Angeles in 2002 to pursue his entertainment career.
