Dahl and Cullum celebrate new baby

Model Sophie Dahl has given birth to her first child with musician Jamie Cullum, a daughter named Lyra.

Dahl, granddaughter of children's author Roald Dahl, and her husband became parents on March 2.

In a brief statement issued through a spokesman, they said: "Musician Jamie Cullum and his wife, the author and presenter Sophie Dahl, have become parents.

"Their daughter Lyra was born on March the second. They are over the moon."

They will not be releasing any further details about their daughter, including her weight and where she was born, the spokesman added.

The couple have been keen to keep their private life out of the public eye since beginning a relationship in 2007.

Dahl, 33, and jazz musician Cullum, 31, celebrated their wedding at a country hotel last year, having kept the event secret from all but their closest friends and family. The blessing at the Lime Wood Hotel in the New Forest National Park in January 2010 followed an official marriage ceremony which took place earlier.

They announced that Dahl, who has presented her own food programme on BBC2, was four months pregnant last September.

The name Lyra has become more well-known since the publication of the Philip Pullman trilogy His Dark Materials, whose central character is called Lyra Belacqua. It is also the name of a Kate Bush song written for a film version of one of the novels.

There is also a constellation called Lyra, and it is the Latin word for lyre, the stringed instrument.
