Stewart to headline Hard Rock gig

Veteran rocker Rod Stewart is headlining the Sunday show at this year's Hard Rock Calling Festival.

The singer, whose hits include Maggie May, You Wear It Well and Sailing, will play London's Hyde Park on June 26.

He said: "Sounds like a perfect night - the people, the place - and I intend to do my part to bring a whole lot of music and more than a few surprises to Hard Rock Calling."

The 66-year-old's most recent records have seen him reinvented as a crooner of American classics but he made his name as the frontman of raucous rockers The Faces before a series of solo hits made him a massive star on both sides of the Atlantic.

Stewart became a father again last month - to a baby boy named Aiden. The baby is his eighth child.

"Rod Stewart is one of the world's greatest showmen - a timeless entertainer who has delighted fans around the world for years," said Hamish Dodds, president and CEO, Hard Rock International.

"We are thrilled to add him as a Hard Rock Calling headliner and to include him in our 40th anniversary celebration."

Bon Jovi will headline Saturday night's concert.

Other big names who have previously played the festival include Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, The Who, Aerosmith and The Police.

Tickets go on sale on at 9am on Friday and are available at www.hardrockcalling.co.uk.
