Adele's chart reign continues

Adele's domination of the single and album charts has continued as she holds onto both top spots, beating off competition from newcomer Jessie J.

Someone Like You has now been number one in the singles charts for three weeks, with sales soaring after her acclaimed Brit Awards performance of the song. Her second album 21 has now been top of the album charts for six weeks.

The singer-songwriter became the first living artist since The Beatles to have two top five hits in both the Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart simultaneously when Someone Like You leapt up the charts.

Debut album 19 slips two places to number four this week, while her other single Rolling In The Deep slips one place to number five.

She has a third single in the top 40 - a cover of Bob Dylan's Make You Feel My Love, which is now at number 27, falling two places.

Who You Are, the first album from BBC Sound of 2011 winner Jessie J, enters the charts at number two, the Official Charts Company said. She keeps the number two singles spot with her hit Price Tag, featuring B.O.B.

She is followed by the second highest entry in the albums chart, Different Gear Still Speeding, by Beady Eye.

Commenting on Adele's success, Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said: "We are witnessing a real superstar in the making.

"A million sales in six weeks for one album would be impressive enough, but to have another album and two singles continuing to sell so strongly plus heading both the Official Singles and Albums Charts simultaneously is truly exceptional."
