Gaga album on course to top charts

Lady Gaga's latest album is on course to outsell the rest of the top 30 put together with around 250,000 copies sold in the first week.

The Born this Way album looks certain to take the top spot according to figures from the Official Charts Company.

It will push Adele's 21 album - which has held the number one spot for 16 weeks out of 20 this year - down into second place.

The flamboyant star, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, also looks likely to have three singles in the Top 20 chart this Sunday.

Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot said: "Lady Gaga is certainly on a hot streak - after her record singles chart haul, she is now set to romp away with Number One in the Official Albums Chart. And, such a large first week sales number is very impressive, making this the most spectacular album arrival of the year so far."

HMV's Gennaro Castaldo said sales reflected her position as "undoubtedly the biggest pop star on the planet right now".

He said: "HMV expects her new album to shift well over a million copies during the course of the year - making it potentially her biggest and fastest-selling release to date."
