Kaiser Chiefs' fans to design album

Kaiser Chiefs are giving fans the chance to design their own album - and earn money from it.

The group - whose hits include I Predict A Riot and Ruby - are asking them to choose their ten favourite tracks from a choice of 20.

And if a fan recommends it to friends who then buy it, they will get a cut of the cost.

The innovative approach is designed to "revitalise and subvert" the album market.

The Leeds band - led by Ricky Wilson - release their fourth studio album The Future Is Medieval today (Friday).

Fans can visit their website at kaiserchiefs.com to hear excerpts of all 20 tracks. They can then choose ten in any order, design the artwork and then download the album.

A statement on behalf of the band said: "It can re-engage the excitement and spontaneity of offering new music immediately to fans, allowing them to hear the record at the same time as media and critics alike and hopefully giving people a fun experience at being the Kaiser Chiefs A&R department."

Downloading the album for £7.50 also created a unique webpage allowing buyers to promote their album and earn £1 for each one bought by friends.

The new release is the band's first since 2008's Off With Their Heads.

Kaiser Chiefs - who recorded the album at their own studio in London's Shoreditch - begin a tour next week, which includes an appearance at Glastonbury Festival on June 26. They also play the V Festival in Chelmsford and Staffordshire in August.
