Parton: Thank you Whitney Houston!

Dolly Parton has joked that she will always love Whitney Houston - because of the royalties she's raked in from having her hit song covered by the RnB singer.

The Bodyguard star's 1992 rendition of the tearjerker I Will Always Love You was a huge success worldwide, much to songwriter Dolly's delight.

"I love when other people sing my songs, even when they screw them up. Well just look at how Whitney Houston screwed up my song," she quipped during her gig at The O2 in London.

"I still cry whenever I go to the bank on that one. Let's just say I will always love Whitney Houston."

The 65-year-old country star, who donned a shiny gold dress and towering heels for the gig before changing into a hot pink jumpsuit, added: "It takes a lot of money to look this cheap - you've heard that one before."

Dolly, who has embarked on a world tour to mark the release of her new album Better Day, also discussed her marriage to husband Carl Dean.

"I guess I'm keeping him. I'd hate to have to trade him in at this stage," she deadpanned.

"We've been married for 45 years. I don't know why you're clapping, I didn't say happily married."
