Etheridge's joy at Hollywood star

Melissa Etheridge said she felt "blessed" as her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was unveiled.

The ceremony dedicated to the rock singer and breast cancer survivor marked the start of Hard Rock Cafe's Pinktober campaign, with her star sitting outside the Hollywood branch of the chain.

The Oscar-winner, who battled cancer in 2004, said she hoped her life could serve as inspiration to others, saying: "My life has been blessed, completely blessed. It's been an unbelievable journey and it continues to be an amazing journey."

The day was also declared as Melissa Etheridge Day by Hamish Dodds, President and CEO of Hard Rock International.

Melissa, who came out as a lesbian in 2003, joked that she's too young to have a Hollywood star.

"I feel kind of young to have this happen, but it's great, I'll take it. It's fine with me," she said.

The two-time Grammy winner - who scooped a best song Oscar in 2007 for I Need To Wake Up, written for documentary An Inconvenient Truth - advised people to pursue their dreams.

"You can have a dream, you can grow up in a small mid-western town and believe and desire and create a life and end up with your star in the Walk of Fame in Hollywood Boulevard," she said.

The 50-year-old added: "Believe in your dreams, my friends, believe, because they do come true and they're beautiful."
