Depeche Mode bandmates record album

Vince Clarke has made a new album with former Depeche Mode bandmate Martin Gore 30 years after he walked out on the synth-pop pioneers.

The musician, who has enjoyed hits as part of groups including Erasure, Yazoo and The Assembly as well as Depeche Mode, was the driving force behind the band's early success.

He was largely responsible for hits like Just Can't Get Enough before he left in 1981 leaving Gore to take up the songwriting reins.

The pair wrote and recorded their new album via email and only met up after it was finished.

Vince said: "I've been getting into and listening to a lot of minimal dance music and I got really intrigued by all the sounds...I realised I needed a collaborator...so it occurred to me to talk to Martin."

Martin said he got an email from his former colleague "out of the blue", adding: "He said, 'No pressure, no deadlines' so I said 'OK.'"

The album, which comes out next year, will be preceded by a series of EPs released under the name VCMG.

Depeche Mode have sold over 100 million albums worldwide and had more than 40 top 40 singles in the UK.
