Maynard excited by homecoming gig

Conor Maynard has returned to his home town to meet hundreds of fans at an album signing and play a homecoming gig.

The 19-year-old from Brighton was met with screams as he signed autographs and performed an acoustic session at the HMV store in Churchill Square shopping centre to celebrate the release of his debut album Contrast.

Conor, whose debut single Can't Say No reached number two in the charts, said he was looking forward to performing in his home town as "the vibe is always different".

He added: "It's going to be weird because the album's out there so people will know the songs. It will be cool to see which they respond to best, which ones they sing out."

Conor started his music career four years ago by uploading cover versions of songs he had recorded to YouTube, according to music company EMI.

Since his rise to fame he has worked with artists including Pharrell Williams and Ne-Yo.

He said: "I had to get used to meeting some of my idols very quickly. I got to meet people like Pharrell and Ne-Yo. I had to get used to meeting those people and not wanting to burst into tears. My tactic was to wait until they left the room and then burst into tears.

"So, it's kind of crazy working with such incredible people I looked up to as I was growing up, and in terms of music them treating me like an equal.

"It gives you a massive boost in confidence, a massive drive to keep going and go further."
