Macca nominated for French honour
Sir Paul McCartney has been nominated for the French Legion of Honour for services to music - the country's highest public award.
A presidential spokesman from the Elysee Palace said the 70-year-old former Beatle - famous for hits like Hey Jude and Yesterday - will be decorated at the rank of officer by French President Francois Hollande in a ceremony in Paris on Saturday.
Sir Paul will join the ranks other singers to have received the honour, including Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli and Dame Shirley Bassey.
Macca, who received a knighthood in the UK in 1997, has performed at both the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games in London this year.
