Bieber offered ice hockey contract

Justin Bieber could be set to swap the stage for the ice after being scouted by an ice hockey team.

The Baby singer has impressed the Bakersfield Condors - a California-based minor league ice hockey team - so much that they have offered him an amateur try-out contract.

A message on the team's website says: "The Bakersfield Condors (@Condors) and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Matt O'Dette (@BigOdie2) announced today that they have offered hit recording artist RW Justin Bieber an amateur tryout contract for the upcoming 2012-13 season."

O'Dette was quoted as saying: "Very rarely do you see this combination of skill and toughness. We share a common Canadian heritage since we both hail from Ontario."

The message says that scouts believe the chart-topper has "soft hands, a good skating stride, and a devastating wrist shot", which would make him a strong opponent on the ice.

Justin, who grew up playing the sport, hasn't commented on whether he will take up the offer.

In 2010 the 18-year-old told ABC's Nightline: "I love hockey. I played hockey all my life."
