Mumford debut new album in city

Mumford And Sons have declared there is no better place than London to debut their new album.

During a storming performance at the iTunes Festival at the Roundhouse in Camden, front man Marcus Mumford said how thrilled he was to be home.

The band has spent a great deal of time abroad touring and the singer said he was excited to play his first gig in the UK in a year.

Marcus, who is married to actress Carey Mulligan, said: "This is our first gig in London for a very, very long time.

"It feels like it's been so long we should have a chat and a catch up.

"Have you had a nice year? How were the Olympics? I missed all of them which was annoying."

During their set the band whipped fans into a jigging frenzy, performing some of their biggest hits including The Cave, Roll Away Your Stone and Little Lion Man, as well as songs from their new record, Babel.

Halfway through the show they lulled the raucous crowd into a hushed silence as they unplugged all their technology to perform an accoustic version of Timshel.

Marcus said: "We are going to do a song with minimal technology. If you're watching at home it won't work very well so sorry."

Playing on a stage decorated with lamps and fairy lights, the band introduced their finale saying: "We were talking about what we would do at this gig a few months ago and decided to have a party. This is our album launch party, thanks for sharing it with us."
