Alicia Keys sings to the heavens

Alicia Keys has been getting in touch with her spiritual side, headlining MTV Crashes Manchester in the city's cathedral.

The 14-time Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter said performing in a place of worship was "a real honour" and added that there was "an energy there that's very different."

"It was great, I loved it. I've been feeling so interestingly different performing these songs," she said.

"Today I felt so calm, and paced, and right in the zone with the crowd. I haven't performed these songs a ton of times, like four shows so far or something, but I guess that's enough to start feeling confident and get the flow. I loved this show, and what a beautiful venue."

Alongside old favourites, Alicia treated the 1,000-strong UK crowd to songs from her highly anticipated new album Girl On Fire, to be released on November 26, and featuring collaborations with Emeli Sande and Bruno Mars.

She said afterwards that it was incredible to see people get into the new tracks.

"The record expresses everything that I've done leading up to this point, where I'm a woman in her own space. The music is really powerful, some of it aggressive, like the title song, some of it so stripped back and vulnerable, or haunting. There are so many different feelings on the record," she explained.

Since releasing her debut album Songs In A Minor, the songstress has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide.
