Classic Status Quo line-up returns

The classic line-up of veteran rock act Status Quo are performing together for the first time in more than 30 years - and after years of legal wrangles.

The group are rock and rolling back the years as they rehearse for a series of shows which will reunite the "frantic four" behind the band's most memorable hits.

They will play a nine-date tour - beginning on Wednesday - as the four main figures in the group when they adopted their name in 1967 take the stage once more.

The band members - Francis Rossi, Rick Parfitt, Alan Lancaster and John Coghlan - all featured on their breakthrough top 10 hit Pictures Of Matchstick Men. They went on to perform on huge hits such as Rocking All Over The World, Down Down and Caroline.

Frontmen Rossi and Parfitt, who first teamed up 50 years ago, carried on under the Quo banner, despite the departure of the others in the early 1980s. It triggered acrimony and years of court battles.

However the band say the return to the classic line-up - which will play the songs they would have performed in around 1977 - will not be a permanent change.

Their first show takes place at the Manchester Apollo and winds up at Wembley Arena on March 17. All the shows have sold out except for the final Wembley date.
