Buble's booze-fuelled album tunes

Michael Buble has joked about getting some boozy inspiration for his songs.

The Canadian crooner claimed alcohol always helps his creative juices flow, particularly when he was writing It's A Beautiful Day, the first single from his upcoming sixth album To Be Loved.

"I just sat down at the piano and I started to work on this tune and the lyrics just came right out. I was drunk, that's the truth - I have never written anything sober in my life. I think if I tried to write sober...," he told BBC News.

The 37-year-old added: "I have always written these songs about love, or loss or longing. I thought this is a great concept - I am going to write this song about a guy whose girlfriend thinks she's the greatest and dumps him. And he realises that once she is gone, his life gets so much better."

Michael, who is expecting a son with Argentine model wife Luisana, also revealed his songs aren't based on personal experience.

"I wish it was, but no. I should say it is based on truth, maybe I will be as popular as Taylor Swift if I say that. Maybe I should date Taylor Swift!" he quipped.

He also talked about his duet with Oscar-winning Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon on Frank and Nancy Sinatra's classic duet Something Stupid, which features on the album.

"I had gone through the singers I knew, like Adele and Katy Perry, and my manager said, 'What about Reese Witherspoon?' because both of us were absolutely fascinated by Walk The Line. She walked into the studio and nailed it, there was no messing around or having to piece things together," he recalled.
