NewsMay, 2 Prince hunting tiny UK gig venuesPrince is on the look out for small venues to play a string of intimate gigs in the UK. The Purple Rain singer is returning to the UK this year but wants to play smaller concerts than his huge O2 run of 2007, reported The Sun. Last time he was in the country, Prince, 54, booked out 21 shows at the O2, performing to around 500,000 fans. Now, his promoters are looking for totally different places for the When Doves Cry singer to appear in. The Sun's source said: "Prince has gone back to basics this year, playing in front of 300 people at the SXSW festival in Texas. "He's now on a US tour of small club shows and wants to do something similar in the UK later in the year. "It's still to be decided if he'll stay at one small venue and play 20 or more gigs or split his time between a few places around the country. "Prince has asked his team to find unusual venues his fans wouldn't expect him to play." For his 2007 gigs, Prince kept ticket prices low and played afterparties in a smaller venue next to the O2. On his current tour he has been playing early and late shows each night, with concert goers getting to hear up to 30 of his hits.
