Halliwell going for rockier sound

Geri Halliwell has revealed she is working on a more alternative sound for her new album.

The Spice Girl has been working on new solo material and revealed at the Ivor Novello awards she has been co-writing songs with folk artist Amy Wadge - who has worked with Ed Sheeran - and rock band Burning Beaches.

Geri revealed: "We've been writing songs in a shed in Wales. Ed Sheeran wrote there - Amy wrote Goldrush with Ed Sheeran. She's very talented.

"And I've been working with a rock band called Burning Beaches. It's really nice when you get to co-write, to work with people who are in a very different genre to you so you bring out the best. It's like coffee and cream, yin and yang. It's been a joy.

"Writing music should be joyful - it's like an antidepressant, it can lift you up, take you there, transport you to that first kiss."

She added: "My daughter [Bluebell] listens to my own music - the way I test a really great song is to ask a child whether they like it."

The 40-year-old singer - who was recently announced to have joined the judging panel of Australia's Got Talent - also refused to rule out another Spice Girls reunion.

She said: "The thing is with the Spice Girls we always say 'No, we're not going to do this,' and I'm learning that you just never know what's going to happen with us lot."
