Tempah: I prefer 'real' London

Tinie Tempah has revealed that he was happy to swap Los Angeles for the "real" streets of London.

The 24-year-old, whose real name is Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu, headed to the US West Coast to record his new album, but decided to return home after becoming disillusioned with the LA life.

"LA is a parallel world. There's an amazing energy, loads of fruit juice and health drinks and everyone's really happy. London is not like that. People are a lot more blunt and honest," he told GQ.

"I felt like, when I was recording, there were a lot of yes men. People thought, 'This guy's done well, let's tell him everything sounds great'. I had a lot recorded and I just thought, 'S***w this. I've got to go home, where people are more real'."

Tinie - who has had hits with Pass Out and Frisky - also returned to the UK to finish Demonstration, the follow-up to his debut offering, because he didn't want to make an "American" album.

"I started it in LA but, after spending so much time there promoting Disc-Overy, I found I was changing," he continued.

"Sometimes English words like 'Hoover', they wouldn't know what I was talking about and I'd start saying 'vacuum cleaner'. I'm an English rapper and I could have ended up writing a song with more American references than British."

Demonstration, which features new single Trampoline with 2 Chainz, is expected to be released around September.
