Gervais: Offers in for Brent album

Ricky Gervais has revealed that his Office alter-ego David Brent could become a chart star, having had "ridiculous" bids to make an album.

The funnyman admitted he has been inundated with "ridiculous offers flying in from around the globe" to make the record, which would feature tracks such as Life On The Road, Spaceman Came Down and Free Love Freeway, which were made famous on the BBC series.

"I can't believe I'm now getting ridiculous offers from major record deals all over the world for a David Brent album. Where were these people when I was trying to be a real popster? And starving? Ha ha," he told The Sun.

Ricky - who created the character - reprises his famous alter-ego for the Learn Guitar With David Brent series, which is shown on Ricky's YouTube Channel and has received more than 18 million views to date.

The new tutorial sees him singing about Slough, where he raves about the town.

Ricky, who will next be seen in The Muppets sequel and the second series of Channel 4 comedy Derek, appeared as David alongside comedian and rapper Doc Brown to perform another David Brent original, Equality Street, for Comic Relief this year.

The 52-year-old said: "It's been so much fun bringing back David Brent and have him philosophise on YouTube, and spend all his hard earned repping money on still trying to become a pop star. It's funny and sadly true of today's X Factor culture."
